Genma Saotome is Ranma 's father. He also fell in the cursed springs while training with Ranma and now turns into a panda when hit with cold water. As a panda, he uses wooden signs to communicate.

Nodoka is Genma's wife. He loves her cooking, but is afraid of the promise he made to her when he took Ranma on the training trip. He promises to make Ranma into a man and would commit seppeku (a type of painful suicide) if he fails. When she comes to visit, Genma quickly changes into his panda form.
